Survival ELTs function in a life raft environment. They can either be placed
in a survival kit or in the pocket of a life raft. Both of the above units are
equipped with a magnetic reed switch, water sensor, and one of two antennas.
The magnetic reed switch acts as a safety device so the unit cannot be falsly
activated. This magnetic switch must be pulled out for the unit to activate.
Once the reed switch has been pulled the water sensor may now by utilized. If
this sensor comes into contact with any sort of moisture it will automatically
activate the ELT.
